A short stroll across the bridge takes you into the friendly border town of Wooler, this busy little market town is well endowed with interesting shops, restaurants and inns. Wherever you are in the town you are aware of the beauty of the surrounding scenery, the majestic Cheviot Hills rise behind the town to form a magnificent backdrop. The park is located on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, making Wooler an excellent centre for walking and relaxing in the country.
Within a short car journey you can be on the magnificent Heritage coastline of North Northumberland with it's spectacular scenery from Bamburgh Castle and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne to Seahouses and the stunning Farne Islands. Alnwick with its historic castle and the famous Alnwick Gardens lie a few miles south while the Scottish Borders are within easy traveling distance on quiet country lanes. Stretching between Wallsend in Newcastle and Carlisle is the imposing line of Hadrian’s Wall, this amazing band of fortifications and settle-ments wends its way through dramatic scenery for over 70 miles.
With easy access to the A1 the exciting cities of Edinburgh, Newcastle and Gateshead are all within striking distance. Great shopping and entertainment abound, Scotland’s capital is well known for its Arts Festival and of course the Fringe! Newcastle is famous for it’s Geordie effervescence, football and Gatehead for the arts, visit the Baltic arts complex and the amazing Sage Concert Hall for all kinds of musical performances.
