The park is located on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, making it an excellent centre for walking and relaxing in the country.
A short stroll across the bridge takes you into the friendly border town of Wooler. This busy little market town is well endowed with interesting shops, restaurants and inns. Wherever you are in the town you are aware of the beauty of the surrounding scenery. The majestic Cheviot Hills rise behind the town to form a magnificent backdrop.
In addition to country walks, there is also a fitness centre, horse riding, golf and fishing nearby.
Within a short car journey you can be on the magnificent heritage coastline of North Northumberland with its spectacular scenery from Bamburgh Castle and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne to Seahouses and the stunning Farne Islands. Alnwick with its historic castle and the famous Alnwick Gardens, lie a few miles south while the Scottish Borders are within easy travelling distance on quiet country lanes. Stretching between Wallsend in Newcastle and Carlisle is the imposing line of Hadrian’s Wall. This amazing band of fortifications and settlements wends its way through dramatic scenery for over 70 miles.
With easy access to the A1, the exciting cities of Edinburgh, Newcastle and Gateshead are all within striking distance. Great shopping and entertainment abound. Scotland’s capital is well known for its Arts Festival and of course the Fringe! Newcastle is famous for its Geordie effervescence, football and Gateshead for the Arts. Visit the Baltic Arts complex and the amazing Sage Concert Hall for all kinds of musical performances.
